What you get with the HD Remaster

The package contains Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. Both are based on the International versions, which were previously only released in Japan and Europe.

The PC version adds a few things that make a long role-playing game easier to live with. According to the Steam store page, it has auto-save and 5 game boosters, including a high-speed mode and a switch that turns off random encounters. The soundtrack has been rearranged for this version.

Play Final Fantasy X and X-2 on your Mac with CloudDeck

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Mac with CloudDeck

CloudDeck is your own gaming PC in the cloud. You install the game from your Steam library, and CloudDeck streams it to your Mac.

Turn-based games like these two are a great fit for cloud gaming. A short delay between pressing a button and seeing the result doesn’t matter when the game waits for your move.

CloudDeck runs Windows games the same way Valve’s Steam Deck does. Valve rates the remaster as Playable on the Steam Deck, and players on ProtonDB give it a Gold rating based on 180 reports.

Here is how to set it up:

  1. Create your CloudDeck account and start your subscription.
  2. Install Moonlight , a free streaming app, on your Mac and connect to your CloudDeck.
  3. Log in to Steam and install Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.
  4. Start the game and pick the title you want to play in the launcher.

You need to own Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Steam. CloudDeck is available in Europe, the United States and Canada. The streaming app needs macOS 10.13 or newer.

Our help center has a step-by-step guide with screenshots for connecting with Moonlight.

Tips for playing on a Mac

Keep your mouse or trackpad within reach. The game starts with a launcher where you pick the title, and that launcher only reacts to the mouse. Once the game itself is running, you can switch to a controller.

The game runs at 30 frames per second. That is a limit of the game on every PC, not of the stream.

The game needs 37 GB of disk space. Your CloudDeck comes with 250 GB, so there is plenty of room left for other games.

Set the right resolution. If you see black bars above and below the picture, the stream doesn't match your screen. For most MacBooks we recommend 1680x1050. Our guide on removing black bars shows where to set it.

Check your keyboard layout. CloudDeck starts with a US keyboard layout. If you use a German, French or other keyboard, some keys won't match until you change the layout.

If the picture stutters, connect your Mac by cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and turn off location services in macOS. There are more tips in our guide on lag and stutters.

To end a session, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Q in Moonlight.

Other ways to play on a Mac

CrossOver is an app that runs some Windows games directly on your Mac, without streaming. It is a paid app with a 14-day free trial. CodeWeavers keeps a compatibility database where you can look up the current rating for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster before you buy.

We haven’t tested Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster with CrossOver. It runs the game on your own Mac, so it costs less in the long run if it works for you. CloudDeck is the better choice if you want to skip the setup, or if you also want to play Windows games that need more power than your Mac has.

What it costs

CloudDeck costs $19.99 per month, and you can cancel anytime. We don't offer a free trial. If you're not happy and have used your CloudDeck for less than 4 hours, we'll refund you. You can sign up here.
