How to Play Coral Island on Mac

How to Play Coral Island on Mac

Coral Island is one of the most charming farming games of the last few years, but the PC version by Stairway Games only runs on Windows. If you own a Mac, you won’t find a Mac version on Steam, and the game isn’t on GeForce Now either.

You don’t need a gaming PC to play it. With CloudDeck you can play Coral Island on the Mac you already have.

What you get with Coral Island

Coral Island spent a year in early access and reached its full release in November 2023. You take over a run-down farm, grow crops, keep animals and help the town get back on its feet. According to the Steam store page, more than 70 townspeople live on the island, and you can befriend or date many of them.

What sets it apart from other farming games is the sea. You dive, clean up the coral reefs and bring the ocean back to life alongside your farm.

How CloudDeck brings Coral Island to your Mac

Coral Island on Mac with CloudDeck

CloudDeck gives you your own gaming PC in the cloud. Coral Island runs on that PC and is streamed to your Mac as video, a bit like Netflix, except that you are in control. You buy the game on Steam as usual and install it on your CloudDeck.

Coral Island is a safe choice for this. Valve has tested the game on the Steam Deck and rates it Verified, the best rating there is. CloudDeck uses the same technology as the Steam Deck to run Windows games, so what works there works here in most cases. Players on ProtonDB give the game the top rating, Platinum.

Here is how to get started:

  1. Create your CloudDeck account and start your subscription.
  2. Install Moonlight , a free streaming app, on your Mac and connect to your CloudDeck.
  3. Log in to Steam and install Coral Island.
  4. Start the game and begin your farm.

You need to own Coral Island on Steam. CloudDeck is available in Europe, the United States and Canada. The streaming app needs macOS 10.13 or newer.

Our help center has a step-by-step guide with screenshots for connecting with Moonlight.

Tips for playing on a Mac

You can play with a controller or with mouse and keyboard. If you have an Xbox or PlayStation controller, connect it to your Mac and it will work in the game.

Your save is stored in Steam Cloud. If you later play on another device, your farm is waiting for you.

Set the right resolution. If you see black bars above and below the picture, the stream doesn't match your screen. For most MacBooks we recommend 1680x1050. Our guide on removing black bars shows where to set it.

Check your keyboard layout. CloudDeck starts with a US keyboard layout. If you use a German, French or other keyboard, some keys won't match until you change the layout.

If the picture stutters, connect your Mac by cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and turn off location services in macOS. There are more tips in our guide on lag and stutters.

To end a session, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Q in Moonlight.

What about co-op?

Coral Island has online co-op, and Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer.

We haven’t tested co-op on CloudDeck.

Other ways to play on a Mac

CrossOver is an app that runs some Windows games directly on your Mac, without streaming. It is a paid app with a 14-day free trial. CodeWeavers keeps a compatibility database where you can look up the current rating for Coral Island before you buy.

We haven’t tested Coral Island with CrossOver. It runs the game on your own Mac, so it costs less in the long run if it works for you. CloudDeck is the better choice if you want to skip the setup, or if you also want to play Windows games that need more power than your Mac has.

What it costs

CloudDeck costs $19.99 per month, and you can cancel anytime. We don't offer a free trial. If you're not happy and have used your CloudDeck for less than 4 hours, we'll refund you. You can sign up here.
